At St. Philip's, baptisms are usually celebrated six times a year, including Easter,
the Day of Pentecost, and All Saints Sunday. The Cathedral also has baptisms
on our patronal feast day in October honoring St. Philip; and, this year, baptisms will be celebrated on Homecoming Sunday, August 17.

"Holy Baptism is the sacrament by which God adopts us as his children and makes us members
of Christ's Body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God."
The Book of Common Prayer pg. 858
Baptism initiates people, by water and the Holy Spirit, into the Body of Christ. We baptize
both adults and infants. We regard the sacrament of baptism as a Holy Mystery, which means
we can understand the meaning of the act without ever fully fathoming the depths of its significance.
The Cathedral of St. Philip joyfully welcomes new members into the Body of our Lord Jesus
Christ through the sacrament of Holy Baptism.
At St. Philip's, baptism is incorporated into regular worship services on specified Sundays
during the year. Because baptism is the outward and visible action that connects a person to
God in a covenant relationship, it belongs in public worship, rather than private ceremony.
Adolescents and adults who desire baptism should contact
Amanda Stephenson, 404-365-1080.
Instruction is required. Parents who wish to have infants or young children baptized may register
with Amanda Stephenson, 404-365-1080, as well.
Parents must attend a baptismal workshop; godparents
(sponsors) are also invited to attend.
